Police Arrest Three Over Sex Worker’s Death in Akure

The Ondo State Police Command has arrested three suspects in connection with the death of a sex worker at a brothel located in the Cathedral area of Akure.

According to reports, the incident took place in the early hours of Sunday, June 29, 2025. Sources revealed that a disagreement broke out between a male customer and the sex worker over a payment of ₦15,000. The man, reportedly dissatisfied with the service he received, demanded a refund after the woman complained of sudden weakness during the encounter.

What began as a verbal exchange quickly escalated into a physical confrontation. Despite attempts by the brothel manager to intervene, the situation intensified.

“He subsequently fled the premises, only to return shortly after with a group of miscreants believed to be his associates, with the intent of forcibly retrieving the said amount,” an eyewitness said.

“It was the arrival of the suspect with others that escalated the situation, following which the brothel manager invited the police.”

Police patrol officers responded to the scene and arrested the suspect and his accomplices while they were allegedly trying to recover the money by force. Meanwhile, the condition of the sex worker worsened.

She was rushed to a nearby hospital in the Lafe area and later referred to the police hospital in Akure, where she was pronounced dead on arrival by medical personnel.

Confirming the incident, the spokesperson of the Ondo State Police Command, Ayanlade Olayinka, said the swift response of the police led to the arrest of three suspects.

Olayinka added, “Efforts are ongoing to apprehend two others who remain at large. Names of those involved are being withheld pending further investigation.”

According to him, “Her body has since been deposited at the State Specialist Hospital morgue for autopsy.”
