Police beef up security for Maulud celebration in Gombe

The Gombe State Police Command has deployed personnel and resources across the state to ensure a peaceful and hitch-free Maulud celebration.
In a statement on Friday, the Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Buhari Abdullahi, said the deployment, approved by the Commissioner of Police, CP Bello Yahaya, covers identified venues, procession routes, and other strategic locations.
He explained that the arrangement involves conventional officers, tactical teams, intelligence units, and operational equipment.
“The command has made robust security arrangements to safeguard lives and property before, during, and after the celebration,” the statement read.
The command reminded residents that the ban on carrying weapons at public gatherings remains in force and warned that offenders will be arrested and prosecuted.
It also reiterated that the restriction on motorcycle movement between 7 pm and 6 am is still in effect.
Organisers of processions, religious leaders, and stakeholders were urged to ensure compliance with security directives and cooperate with security operatives throughout the celebration.
While felicitating with Muslim faithful, CP Yahaya urged residents to be law-abiding, report suspicious movements, and avoid acts capable of disrupting public peace.
Maulud, which commemorates the birth of Prophet Muhammad (SAW), is widely observed across northern Nigeria with processions, prayers, and community gatherings.
