Army Lieutenant, 15 Villagers Feared Dead as Bandits Raid Zamfara Community

A deadly bandit attack has rocked a community in Zamfara State, resulting in the death of a Nigerian Army lieutenant and at least 15 villagers, with several others feared killed or injured.

According to sources, the well-coordinated assault occurred late Tuesday night in the Dansadau axis of Maru Local Government Area. Armed bandits stormed the area on motorcycles, opening fire on both residents and security personnel.

Eyewitnesses report that the bandits operated for hours without resistance, looting homes and setting buildings ablaze. A military response team was reportedly ambushed during an attempt to repel the attackers, leading to the death of a gallant army lieutenant and several soldiers whose exact number is yet to be confirmed.

Locals say the death toll may rise, as many victims are still unaccounted for while others are battling life-threatening injuries.

The incident has sparked renewed fear in the region, which has been plagued by persistent insecurity, despite repeated military operations.

Security analysts are calling for urgent government intervention and intensified efforts to dismantle the terror networks tormenting rural communities across the North-West.
