SDP Expels El-Rufai, Slams 30-Year Ban Over Alleged Anti-Party Activities
In a dramatic political move, the Social Democratic Party (SDP) has expelled former Kaduna State Governor, Mallam Nasir El-Rufai, slamming a 30-year ban on his involvement with the party.
The party’s National Working Committee (NWC) made the announcement in a statement released Monday, declaring El-Rufai persona non grata and barring him from participating in or associating with the SDP in any form.
According to the statement, the decision followed what the NWC described as “consistent acts of indiscipline, betrayal of party ideals, and actions that undermine the SDP’s integrity and unity.”
While the specific allegations were not fully disclosed, insiders suggest that El-Rufai’s recent political moves and controversial utterances played a key role in the disciplinary action.
“The SDP is a party built on transparency, internal democracy, and progressive values. No individual, regardless of past stature, is above the constitution of the party,” the NWC said.
The ban, which effectively sidelines El-Rufai from SDP politics until 2055, is one of the most severe sanctions in the party’s history.
Political analysts view the expulsion as both a warning to other high-profile members and a statement of the party’s zero-tolerance policy for conduct it deems detrimental to its objectives.
As of press time, El-Rufai is yet to issue an official response to the ban.
