Security Forces Repel Boko Haram Attack on Police Station in Borno

Security forces in Borno State successfully repelled an attack by suspected Boko Haram insurgents on the Malari Police Station in the early hours of Wednesday.
According to local security sources, the militants launched the assault around 1:00 a.m., targeting the police facility. However, a joint team of police officers and soldiers swiftly responded, engaging the attackers in a fierce gun battle that forced them to retreat.
Confirming the incident, the spokesperson for the Borno State Police Command, ASP Nahum Daso, stated that the insurgents attempted to breach the police station but were effectively countered.
“Yes, there was an attack on Malari Police Station, but no casualties were recorded. The officers on duty, working alongside the military, repelled the insurgents and prevented them from gaining entry into the town,” Daso reported.
During the confrontation, the terrorists attempted to disable a police Armoured Personnel Carrier by targeting its tyres but were unable to destroy the vehicle.
“So far, no bodies have been recovered, but we are confident there were casualties among the insurgents,” Daso added.
Residents Call for Stronger Security Measures
Despite the security forces’ success in thwarting the attack, some residents expressed fears that the insurgents might regroup and launch another assault.

“We are scared they may return. We appreciate the efforts of our security forces and urge them to strengthen security measures,” a local resident disclosed to newsmen on condition of anonymity.
The incident comes just weeks after Boko Haram militants attacked the Nganzai Police Division in Borno, killing two police officers.
Borno State Commissioner of Police, Yusufu Lawal, commended the officers involved in repelling the Malari attack for their bravery. He also reassured residents of the police force’s commitment to maintaining security in the region.
