Senate Confirms DIG Ringim, Three Others as PSC Members

The Nigerian Senate has approved the nomination of retired Deputy Inspector General of Police (DIG) Uba Ringim and three others as members of the Police Service Commission (PSC).

Other appointees include retired Justice Paul Adamu Galumje, Abdulfatah Mohammed, and retired Justice Christine Ladi Dabup.

The confirmation followed the Senate’s consideration and adoption of the report from its Committee on Police Affairs, which screened the nominees during plenary.

In a letter sent to the Senate in November last year, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu requested their confirmation, stating:

“In accordance with the provisions of Section 154(1) of the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, 1999 (as amended), I am pleased to present for confirmation by the Senate the appointments of the under-listed four (4) nominees as members of the Police Service Commission.

“While it is my hope that the Senate will consider and confirm the nominees in the usual expeditious manner, please accept, Distinguished Senate President, the assurances of my highest consideration and personal regards.”

In a related development, the Senate approved President Tinubu’s nominees for appointment as Chairman and members of the National Assembly Service Commission (NASC).

Dr. Saviour Enyiekere (South-South) was confirmed as Chairman for a renewable five-year term, alongside commissioners representing different geopolitical zones. However, the nomination of Dr. Nnanna Uzor Kalu from the Southeast was stood down following a petition by the current occupant of the slot from Imo State, who argued that his tenure had not elapsed.
