Super Falcons Arrive at Presidential Villa, Meet President Tinubu Amid Celebrations
Nigeria’s national women’s football team, the Super Falcons, received a warm and heroic welcome at the Presidential Villa in Abuja today as they met with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu following their stunning triumph at the 2025 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON).
The team, led by Head Coach Randy Waldrum and Captain Onome Ebi, arrived at the Aso Rock Villa to a jubilant reception. The visit follows their historic 3–2 comeback victory over Morocco in Rabat, sealing their 10th WAFCON title a feat unmatched on the African continent.
President Tinubu, in his remarks, hailed the Super Falcons as “true daughters of Nigeria” and praised their resilience, discipline, and national pride. He pledged continued government support for women’s football and sports development in general.
You have made Nigeria proud. Your victory is not just a win in football—it is a powerful statement about the strength, potential, and unity of our great nation, Tinubu said during the reception.
The players were dressed in elegant green and white attires, proudly displaying their gold medals. The event also saw the presence of Sports Minister Senator John Enoh, NFF President Ibrahim Gusau, and other top government officials.
Sources within the Presidency revealed that President Tinubu may announce cash rewards, national honors, or housing packages for the team similar to gestures extended to past champions.
This victory not only reaffirms the Super Falcons’ dominance in African women’s football but also boosts morale ahead of global competitions, including the next FIFA Women’s World Cup qualifiers.
