RMAFC Commences Review of Salaries for Political, Public Office Holders

The Revenue Mobilisation Allocation and Fiscal Commission (RMAFC) has started reviewing the remuneration packages of political and public office holders in Nigeria.
FCNN gathered that the review aims to update salaries that have remained unchanged since 2007, nearly two decades ago.
Current remuneration are;The President: N14,058,820 annually,Vice President: N12,126,290 annually,Ministers: N8,105,600 annually,Senators: N8,105,600 annually,Members of the House of Representatives: N7,940,850.50 annually,governors: N8,894,820 annually and local government chairmen: N3,633,248 annually.
The RMAFC is hosting a strategic retreat in Kano to harmonize various reports and finalize the updated salary structure.
The review considers a wide range of perspectives, including memoranda from stakeholders, public hearings, and ministerial submissions. The Commission aims to ensure that recommendations are fair, realistic, and sustainable.

The current salaries have not changed since 2008 and do not reflect present-day realities.The review aims to align political and public office holders’ pay with their responsibilities and reduce distortions within the system.A new remuneration structure that is balanced, fair, and sustainable.
The review is expected to set the tone for a framework that will determine future remuneration packages for political and public office holders nationwide.
