Suspended Rivers State Governor, Siminilaya Fubara, Meets President Tinubu in Lagos Amid Political Tensions.

  1. Suspended Governor of Rivers State, Sir Siminalayi Joseph Fubara, reportedly visited President Bola Ahmed Tinubu at his private residence in Ikoyi, Lagos, in what sources describe as a closed-door meeting aimed at resolving the lingering political crisis in the state allegedly.

The meeting is believed to be part of broader efforts to address the protracted dispute between Governor Fubara and his predecessor, the current Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike. The political rift, which has persisted for months, culminated in the recent six-month suspension of Governor Fubara, his deputy Dr. Ngozi Odu, and 26 members of the Rivers State House of Assembly. In a controversial move, President Tinubu also announced the appointment of Vice Admiral Ibok-Ete Ibas (rtd) as sole administrator of the state—a decision that has drawn widespread criticism from political stakeholders and constitutional experts across the country.

Defending his actions, President Tinubu stated that his decisions were made in the best interest of Rivers State, aiming to prevent further escalation of the crisis and ensure governance, peace and stability.

Earlier this week, on Monday, June 2, 2025, FCT Minister Nyesom Wike addressed the media in Abuja, offering his perspective on the crisis. He accused Governor Fubara of betrayal, despite his significant support in ensuring Fubara’s emergence as his successor. Wike expressed personal disappointment and questioned the necessity of the governor’s actions, which he described as a departure from their prior understanding.

As the political drama continues to unfold, Governor Fubara’s recent visit to President Tinubu has sparked renewed optimism for a peaceful resolution. The governor, has urged his supporters and the people of Rivers State to remain calm and to thank President Tinubu for his timely intervention. He appealed to all parties to reject violence and support the ongoing peace process.

At the heart of the crisis lies a fierce struggle for control over the political structure and resources of Rivers State—a power tussle that has deeply polarized the state’s political landscape just months into the current administration.
