Tragic IED Attack Claims 26 Lives, Injures 3 on Borno Road

No fewer than 26 individuals have been reported dead and three others injured following a devastating improvised explosive device (IED) attack on April 29, 2025, along the Maiduguri–Damboa highway in Borno State.
The incident occurred when a convoy of civilian and commercial vehicles, under military escort, was traveling from Damboa to Maiduguri.
The IED, believed to have been planted by Boko Haram insurgents, detonated with lethal force, resulting in significant vehicle destruction and numerous instant fatalities among passengers.
This attack represents one of the deadliest events on this route in recent months, raising renewed concerns about the revival of terrorist activities in the area.
Governor Babagana Zulum expressed profound condolences for the lives lost, noting that the state had enjoyed over a year of relative stability before this tragic occurrence.
He visited the injured victims at the State Specialist Hospital in Maiduguri, where he mandated that their treatment be provided at no cost.

Furthermore, the governor emphasized the need for enhanced surveillance and security patrols on highways throughout Borno State to prevent future attacks.
