Tension grips BUK as phone snatchers kill student

Bayero University, Kano, has begun a manhunt for suspected phone thieves who stabbed to death a 300-level student of the institution, identified as Umar Abdullahi Hafiz.

The university’s Director of Public Affairs, Lamara Garba, confirmed the incident in a statement on Thursday, revealing that it happened at the victim’s residence in the Dorayi area of Kano metropolis.

He said arrangements have been made to transport Umar’s remains to his hometown in Zaria, Kaduna State, for burial.

The Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Sagir Adamu Abbas, pledged to work with security agencies to track down the perpetrators, urging calm among students and staff while assuring the university’s commitment to safety.

Reports indicate that phone snatching has become a daily menace in Kano, claiming the lives of innocent residents.
