Tricycle, Motorcycle Accidents Leave One Dead, Several Injured in Oyo

The Oyo State Road Traffic Management Authority (OYRTMA) has reported a fatal motorcycle accident and a separate serious tricycle crash, both occurring in Ibadan.
According to a statement from OYRTMA Chairman, Adekoya Adesagba, the motorcycle accident took place at Agbarigo, Mokola, where a TVS motorcycle with registration number LUY 306 UT was involved in a crash that claimed one life and left two others injured. OYRTMA operatives responded promptly, rescuing the victims and transporting them to the Oyo State Hospital at Ring Road for treatment.
In a separate incident on Thursday morning, a tricycle rider driving against traffic at high speed struck a pedestrian, Oladayo Adisa, near a petrol station in Ibadan. Adisa, who was attempting to cross the road, sustained severe facial injuries.
Adesagba condemned the reckless behavior of the tricycle operator, noting that the increasing trend of one-way driving poses a serious danger to public safety.
He urged road users to strictly adhere to traffic regulations.
“Mr. Adisa was caught off guard and seriously injured due to the carelessness of the tricycle rider,” Adesagba stated. “This kind of reckless conduct is unacceptable, and the government will not tolerate it. We will continue to enforce traffic laws rigorously to protect all road users.”
Eyewitnesses reported that the tricycle rider showed no remorse after the incident, even claiming he lacked the means to help the injured pedestrian. Fortunately, the petrol station manager and OYRTMA officials at the scene acted quickly, rushing Adisa to a nearby hospital for emergency care.
Upon regaining consciousness, Adisa commended the swift response of OYRTMA and the station manager. “If OYRTMA catches anyone driving one-way, they shouldn’t be released until taken to court,” he remarked.
In the case of the fatal motorcycle accident, OYRTMA officials also recovered personal belongings of the victims, including a bag containing a large sum of money, which was returned to the victim’s family—highlighting the agency’s commitment to integrity and public service.
Adesagba applauded the efforts of the Oyo State Government in promoting road safety, stating, “We appreciate the government’s commitment to protecting lives and property. OYRTMA remains fully dedicated to supporting these initiatives and ensuring traffic violators are held accountable.”
He concluded by appealing to the public for cooperation: “Only through shared responsibility and adherence to traffic rules can we make our roads safer for everyone.”
