Two Men Sentenced to Six Months in Prison for Stealing Hotel Iron Poles

An Igbosere Magistrates’ Court sitting in Tinubu, Lagos Island, on Tuesday sentenced two men, Isaac Michael (24) and Shittu Sanni (22), to six months’ imprisonment each for stealing scaffolding iron poles from a hotel property.
Presiding Magistrate Gbajumo Ayoku handed down the sentence after the duo pleaded guilty to a two-count charge of conspiracy, attempted felony, and theft.
According to the prosecutor, Inspector Cyriacus Osuji, the offence occurred around 1:45 p.m. on July 13, 2025, at No. 13B Elegba Festival Drive, Oniru Estate, Victoria Island.
Osuji told the court that the convicts, alongside others still at large, drove a mini-bus with registration number AAA 985 YK into the premises of Golden Tulip Hotel and began loading scaffolding iron poles, each valued at N45,000.
“The defendants had no permission from the hotel management to remove the items and intended to sell them for personal profit before they were caught,” Osuji said.
The offences, he noted, are in violation of Sections 411 and 406 of the Lagos State Criminal Law of 2015.

Following their guilty plea, Magistrate Ayoku convicted the men and sentenced each to six months in prison. The court also ruled that the sentences would not run concurrently.
“No option of a fine is granted,” Ayoku stated.
