The Minister of the FCT, Nyesom Wiike’s camp, through his spokesperson, has criticized Diri’s concerns about a pro-Wike rally as “shamefully baseless,” arguing that Wike would inform security if he planned such an event.

He further accused Diri of fear and hypocrisy, pointing out that Diri sought Wike’s support for his re-election, portraying the governor as now using the rally as a scapegoat for his perceived political failings.

Wike’s camp highlights the right of Nigerians to support anyone and questions Diri’s handling of the situation by calling the security meeting and consulting elders over such a perceived non-issue.

Governor Diri, in contrast, warns against the rally, fearing it will exacerbate existing political tensions in Rivers State and potentially cause ethnic unrest in Bayelsa.

He links the rally to Wike’s past remarks about potentially inciting trouble in PDP-governed states. Diri’s approach emphasizes security concerns and responsible political action, arguing that such a gathering could have serious consequences in his state.

The core of the disagreement lies in different interpretations of the planned rally and its potential impact. Wike’s team sees it as a legitimate expression of support, while Diri perceives it as a provocative action that could destabilize his state.
