She’s the Voice of a Betrayed Generation” – Atiku Compares Raye to Historic Freedom Fighters
A Lagos-based National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) member, Ushie Uguamaye, popularly known as Raye, has allegedly come under fire for criticizing President Bola Tinubu’s administration in a viral video. Raye claimed that after her outspoken remarks on Nigeria’s worsening economic crisis, she received threats reportedly from NYSC officials pressuring her to delete the video.

Former Vice President and 2023 presidential candidate, Atiku Abubakar, has now thrown his weight behind Raye, hailing her courage and likening her to Nigeria’s legendary female activists, including Funmilayo Ransom-Kuti, Gambo Sawaba, and Margaret Ekpo.
“Raye embodies the spirit of a new generation of women who champion the ideals of popular participation and unwavering advocacy in the political sphere. I deeply admire her boldness and wisdom—her fearless resolve to speak truth to power, undeterred by the weight of opposition,” Atiku wrote in a statement shared on X (formerly Twitter).
The former vice president condemned the backlash against Raye, urging Nigerians to support rather than silence voices of dissent. “Rather than being met with hostility, Raye deserves encouragement and support. She is a shining emblem of the Nigerian youth—a testament to the long-held promise that the leaders of tomorrow are already among us, ready to shape a better future,” he stated.
Raye’s video, posted on her TikTok account #talktoraye, slammed Tinubu’s administration for failing to provide economic relief, stating that “hard work no longer guarantees financial stability.” She also described the president as a “terrible leader.”
Despite the widespread public debate her video has sparked, authorities have yet to address her allegations of intimidation.
