Sowore Criticizes Atiku, El-Rufai-Led 2027 Coalition, Cautions Nigerians Against ‘Political Deception’

Prominent activist and presidential candidate of the African Action Congress (AAC), Omoyele Sowore, has strongly criticized the emerging political coalition led by former Vice President Atiku Abubakar and ex-Kaduna State Governor Nasir El-Rufai, warning Nigerians against falling for what he describes as a “political opposition scam.”
Sowore, known for his vocal stance against mainstream politicians, expressed skepticism about the coalition’s intentions, alleging that it is merely an opportunistic attempt by political elites to regain power rather than a genuine effort to improve governance. He argued that many of those coming together for the 2027 elections have been part of Nigeria’s long-standing problems and should not be trusted to bring meaningful change.
In a statement, Sowore accused the coalition of being driven by self-interest rather than a commitment to democratic progress or the welfare of the people. He urged Nigerians to remain vigilant and not be deceived by political figures who, according to him, recycle themselves every election cycle with promises that remain unfulfilled.
“The same individuals who have mismanaged Nigeria for decades are now rebranding themselves as opposition figures ahead of 2027. This is nothing more than a political scam aimed at misleading the people once again,” Sowore stated.
He further emphasized the need for Nigerians to support alternative leadership outside the traditional political establishment, urging the electorate to reject those he referred to as “opportunists.” He insisted that meaningful change could only come from leaders with a track record of integrity and a genuine commitment to the country’s progress.
As the 2027 elections approach, political maneuvering has intensified, with various factions aligning to challenge the current administration. While the coalition led by Atiku and El-Rufai has yet to fully outline its agenda, Sowore’s remarks highlight the growing skepticism among certain political observers regarding the credibility of familiar faces re-entering the electoral space.
With Nigerians grappling with economic challenges, insecurity, and governance concerns, the political landscape remains tense. The coming months will reveal whether the opposition coalition can gain public trust or if, as Sowore warns, it will be seen as another failed promise in the country’s democratic journey.
