Four persons were injured on Thursday night after a petroleum tanker caught fire while offloading Premium Motor Spirit (PMS) at AYM Shafa Filling Station, located beside the Federal Capital Territory Internal Revenue Service (FCT-IRS) office along Funmilayo Ransome-Kuti Way in Area 3, Garki, Abuja.
The Federal Fire Service (FFS) said the tanker was carrying about 60,000 litres of petrol when the incident occurred.
In a statement issued on Friday by the National Public Relations Officer and Head of Corporate Services at the FFS Headquarters, DCF Paul Abraham, the Service said firefighters swiftly responded to the emergency and successfully extinguished the blaze.
According to the statement, the fire spread to part of the adjoining three-storey FCT-IRS building before it was brought under control through a coordinated operation involving multiple firefighting appliances, medium water jets and foam compounds.
The Controller-General of the Federal Fire Service, Olumode Samuel Adeyemi, led the emergency response as Incident Commander and remained at the scene until the early hours of Friday to ensure the fire was completely extinguished.
The FFS said four adult males sustained injuries during the incident and were evacuated by a National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) ambulance to a nearby hospital, where they received treatment before being discharged.
The Service added that a post-incident assessment confirmed there was no further fire outbreak or loss of life, noting that all emergency personnel and equipment returned safely to their respective stations after the operation.

The Fire Service also commended residents, motorists and members of the public for cooperating with emergency officials and adhering to safety directives during the response.
It further acknowledged the support of the FCT Fire Service, NEMA, the Nigeria Police Force and other emergency agencies that participated in containing the fire.
The FFS disclosed that an investigation had commenced to determine both the immediate and underlying causes of the incident to prevent similar occurrences in the future.
