NSCDC deploys team to Kaduna train derailment site

The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) has confirmed the successful rescue of all 618 passengers aboard a Kaduna-bound train that derailed along the Abuja-Kaduna rail corridor.
In a statement on Wednesday, the corps spokesperson, Afolabi Babawale, said the incident occurred on Tuesday at Kilometre 49, between Kubwa and Asham stations.
According to him, the NSCDC immediately deployed a tactical team of officers to the scene following a distress call, as part of its commitment to disaster response and the protection of national assets.
The Commandant General of the NSCDC, Prof. Ahmed Audi, who personally led the team to the site, reaffirmed the corps’ dedication to its core mandate of safeguarding critical infrastructure and protecting civilians during emergencies. He was accompanied by key stakeholders from the nation’s security and transport sectors for an on-the-spot assessment.
Audi stressed the need for stronger preventive measures along the corridor to protect passengers and infrastructure.
“In deploying a tactical team of gallant officers to the scene, where a Kaduna-bound passenger train with 618 passengers derailed at Kilometre 49, the NSCDC remains fully committed to protecting critical national assets and infrastructure, as well as ensuring rescue and safety operations during emergencies,” he said.
