The Department of Homeland Security (DHS) has revoked two grants totaling over $2.7 million from Harvard University and is considering the withdrawal of its authority to enroll foreign students.
This action is part of the Trump administration’s broader initiative against the university, which it accuses of disregarding federal requests that the government believes undermine Harvard’s autonomy.
DHS Secretary Kristi Noem has highlighted the university’s alleged role in creating a “hostile learning environment” for Jewish students, asserting that it has permitted the rise of anti-American and pro-Hamas sentiments within its campus community.
The financial cuts include a $1.9 million grant intended for violence prevention and a second grant that DHS claims supported a biased research project. According to Noem, Harvard’s positions on these matters pose a threat to national security.

Furthermore, Harvard has faced recent revocations of student visas for several international students participating in pro-Palestinian demonstrations.
In response, university leadership has reaffirmed its commitment to maintaining its independence while taking steps to combat antisemitism on campus.
