Motorcycle Rider Killed by Passenger in Kogi State

Adewale Jethro, a middle-aged commercial motorcycle operator, was gruesomely murdered by a suspected armed robber who posed as a passenger before stealing his bike along Best Way Road in Kabba, Kogi State.

The tragic incident reportedly occurred on Wednesday night.

According to sources, the assailant had boarded Jethro’s motorcycle under the pretense of needing a ride to a remote area and offered to pay a higher fare.

Upon reaching a secluded location, the attacker hacked Jethro to death and fled with the motorcycle.

In a statement released on Thursday by Emmanuel Olorunmaiye, spokesperson for the Owe Titun Development Association, it was confirmed that the weapon used in the attack was recovered at the scene.

The group expressed outrage at the murder, calling it a “barbaric violation of human dignity” and a serious threat to community peace.

“We strongly condemn this wicked and cowardly act,” the statement read. “We call on security agencies, traditional rulers, elders, and all stakeholders to take decisive action to prevent further bloodshed in our land. We extend our heartfelt condolences to the family of Mr. Adewale Jethro.

May God grant them strength and comfort during this painful time.”

Confirming the incident, spokesperson for the Kogi State Police Command, William Aya, said the Divisional Police Officer in Kabba reported that the suspect lured Jethro with the promise of a higher fare before attacking him.

Aya added that Jethro was rushed to the hospital but succumbed to his injuries before medical help could arrive.

The victim’s body has since been deposited in the mortuary, and police have launched an investigation into the killing.
