Fake Alcohol Factory uncovered in Lagos by (NAFDAC) Seizes Products Worth ₦2 Billion

The National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC) has uncovered a massive fake alcohol production factory in Lagos, seizing counterfeit products valued at over ₦2 billion.

The discovery followed a tip-off and subsequent surveillance by NAFDAC operatives, who raided the facility located in the Alimosho area of Lagos. During the operation, the agency seized over 50,000 bottles of counterfeit alcoholic beverages, including popular brands widely consumed across the country.

NAFDAC’s Director-General, Prof. Mojisola Adeyeye, described the operation as a significant breakthrough in the fight against fake and substandard products. She revealed that the factory was operating without proper registration, producing unsafe products under unsanitary conditions. “These counterfeit products pose a serious risk to public health and safety,” Prof. Adeyeye stated, emphasizing the agency’s commitment to ensuring consumer protection.

The agency also disclosed that the culprits behind the illegal operation have been apprehended and will face prosecution. Prof. Adeyeye urged Nigerians to be vigilant and report suspicious activities to authorities, reiterating that the consumption of fake alcohol can lead to severe health complications, including poisoning and organ damage.

This latest success highlights NAFDAC’s ongoing efforts to safeguard the health of Nigerians by cracking down on the production and distribution of substandard and counterfeit goods. The agency reaffirmed its dedication to intensifying surveillance and enforcement actions across the country.
