Police Arrest 14, Recover Fake Currencies, Weapons in Jigawa

In a major security operation, police and other security agencies have arrested 14 suspects and recovered counterfeit currencies and weapons during a raid in Digawa village, Birnin Kudu Local Government Area of Jigawa State.

The raid, conducted on June 12, 2025—Democracy Day—followed credible intelligence reports about a criminal syndicate involved in fraud and other illegal activities in the area.

The operation was confirmed in a statement released Thursday in Dutse, the state capital, by the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Shi’isu Adam.

The police spokesperson stated that the suspects, all male, are currently in custody and undergoing investigation. He added that they will be charged to court upon conclusion of the investigation.

“This operation underscores our commitment to safeguarding communities and eliminating criminal elements,” Adam said. “It is a follow-up to an earlier incident on June 11, 2025, when suspected fraudsters from Digawa attacked Dumus village, resulting in the death of a 60-year-old man, Isma’il Ibrahim, and injuries to eight others.”

The deceased and the injured were taken to the Federal Medical Centre in Birnin Kudu for autopsy and treatment.

Recovered items from the recent raid include nine fabricated pistols, 27 Dane guns, 37 pieces of gun components, four motorcycles, and 12 counterfeit U.S. dollar notes.

Other items seized were 188 pieces of suspected fake Central African currency, bows and arrows, metal tools, animal skins, files, saws, a vice, a blower, and various charms.
