Edo Police Rescue Kidnapped ASP and Three Others After Intense Manhunt
The Edo State Police Command has successfully rescued an Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP), Elisha Jeremiah, along with three other kidnapped victims. Jeremiah, attached to the Force Criminal Investigation Department (FCID) in Abuja, was abducted on January 29, 2025, while traveling to Anambra State along the Okhuesan-Ewohimi Road in Edo.
Among the rescued victims were Ayedele Ebenezer from Ogbidi Road, Uromi, and Useni Inusa. The operation was confirmed by the Edo Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), Chief Superintendent of Police (CSP) Moses Yamu, on Tuesday night.
According to Yamu, “Following the kidnap of the travellers, operatives of Ubiaja Divisional Police Headquarters, in a joint operation with other tactical teams, immediately went on the trail of the kidnappers. The Edo State Commissioner of Police, CP Betty Enekpen Isokpan Otimenyin, ordered additional deployment of Police Mobile Force personnel to ensure the rescue of the victims and arrest of the perpetrators.”

He further explained that intelligence-led operations, conducted in collaboration with local hunters and vigilante groups, led to the successful mission. “The team, acting on intelligence today (February 4) at about 1530hrs, mobilized to the bushes around Ugbebor, in partnership with local hunters and vigilance members. This effort paid off, as the kidnappers abandoned their victims and fled when they sensed that the operatives were closing in on them.”
