Gunmen Kill Lawyer, Courts in Mgbidi, Oguta, and Omumma Shut Down
OWERRI – Legal activities came to a halt on Thursday in the Mgbidi, Oguta, and Omumma areas of Imo State following the shocking murder of a lawyer, Chinedu Nwowu.
Reports revealed that Nwowu was shot dead on Wednesday evening while driving along Mgbidi Road.
Eyewitness accounts stated that the gunmen forcefully intercepted the victim’s vehicle before carrying out the fatal attack.
In response, the Orlu Branch of the Nigerian Bar Association (NBA), to which the deceased belonged, suspended court sessions in the affected areas. The association also convened an emergency meeting to address the tragic incident.
A memo issued by Chukwuemeka Okoro on behalf of the branch read:

“Following the gruesome murder of one of us, CHINEDU NWOWU last night in his town, Mgbidi, all lawyers of Oru/Oguta Forum are hereby notified of a crucial emergency meeting this morning by 10 am at the High Court, Mgbidi.
“The Mgbidi, Oguta and Omumma High Courts will not sit today. Please, be punctual.”
At the time of filing this report, the spokesperson for the Imo State Police Command, Henry Okoye, had yet to provide an official statement on the incident.
