Apc in Rivers State begins its e-registration

The All Progressives Congress (APC) in Rivers State has launched its nationwide electronic membership registration (e-registration) exercise, with an ambitious target of enrolling approximately six million new members.
State APC Chairman, Chief Tony Okocha, announced this during the official flag-off ceremony and training session for local government area (LGA) supervisors and ward agents, held at the party secretariat in Port Harcourt on Monday.
Although Rivers State began the exercise later than several others—some of which have already registered over 300,000 members—Okocha urged supervisors to work diligently and ensure the state surpasses others by the January 31, 2026 deadline.
He emphasized the importance of the digital process, stating:
“This is not the old system where people could register from home or submit ghost names—your personal data will be captured and verified, so only real individuals can be enrolled.”
Okocha highlighted Rivers State’s population (estimated at over 7 million based on recent projections, with some sources citing up to nearly 10 million) as a strong foundation for achieving this goal. He expressed confidence that the state would quickly catch up and take the lead due to the commitment of its party faithful.
The e-registration initiative aims to eliminate fake registrations, duplicate entries, and other irregularities that plagued previous efforts. Okocha referenced the 2023 experience, where the party claimed over 12 million registered members nationwide, but the figure failed to translate into electoral success, raising doubts about authenticity.
He instructed supervisors and agents to be strict yet inclusive:
“Treat this assignment as your personal responsibility. Do not discriminate or turn away anyone who wishes to join the APC—everyone is welcome.”
Okocha also reassured party members that the APC remains strong and united in Rivers State.
State Secretary Eric Nwibani echoed the call for seriousness, noting that the goal is to position Rivers among the top states in membership numbers—ideally surpassing Kano (after Lagos) in this exercise. With 319 wards and 6,866 polling units, he pointed out that registering just 100 people per polling unit would exceed the six-million target.
Silva Sanwi, the State Coordinator for the e-registration Hands-on Device Application Train-the-Trainer Exercise, added that the party is partnering with the National Identity Management Commission (NIMC) to ensure all captured data is authentic and the process runs smoothly.
This digital overhaul is part of the APC’s broader nationwide effort to build a credible, technology-driven membership database ahead of upcoming congresses and the national convention in March 2026.
