Military Arrests Two Suspects in Plateau State Over Attempted Purchase of AK-47 Rifle for ₦1.45 Million

In a significant operation, the Nigerian military has arrested two suspects in Plateau State who were attempting to purchase an AK-47 rifle for ₦1.45 million. The arrest took place following intelligence reports and surveillance aimed at curbing the illegal arms trade that continues to fuel insecurity in the region.

According to military sources, the suspects were apprehended while trying to complete the transaction. The operation underscores ongoing efforts by security forces to combat the proliferation of illegal weapons, which contributes to rising cases of banditry, communal clashes, and armed violence in the state and other parts of the country.

The suspects are currently in custody and are undergoing further interrogation to determine the origin of the weapon and to uncover any links to wider criminal networks or insurgent activities.

This arrest is part of a broader initiative to strengthen security measures and reduce the availability of illicit arms in conflict-prone regions. The military continues to urge the public to provide information that can aid in the fight against crime and improve overall security in Nigeria.
