In a statement issued by his Special Adviser on Media, Dauda Iliya, the governor paid tribute to the deceased, describing him as a patriotic Nigerian, an elder statesman, and one of Borno’s finest sons whose contributions to public service would remain unforgettable.

Governor Zulum noted that Shettima belonged to the generation of pioneering police officers who helped shape the values of professionalism, integrity, and discipline within the Nigeria Police Force.

He added that as one of the few surviving police officers from Borno State who joined the force before Nigeria gained independence, the late DIG dedicated over three decades to serving the country with exceptional courage, honour, and distinction.

The governor also highlighted Shettima’s academic accomplishments, noting that he was an alumnus of the National Institute for Policy and Strategic Studies (NIPSS), Kuru. Describing the loss as monumental, Governor Zulum said Shettima’s impact extended far beyond his family, touching the lives of many across Borno State and Nigeria.

“He was an outstanding leader, mentor, and symbol of selfless service whose legacy will continue to inspire future generations,” the governor said.

Governor Zulum prayed for Almighty Allah to forgive the shortcomings of the deceased, grant him eternal rest in Aljannatul Firdaus, and give his family, friends, and the people of Borno State the strength to bear the loss.

Until his passing, Abdullahi Shettima remained one of Nigeria’s most respected retired senior police officers, offering guidance and inspiration to many years after leaving active service.
