Tinubu Arrives Japan for TICAD9

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has arrived in Japan for the Ninth Tokyo International Conference on African Development (TICAD9), which begins tomorrow in Yokohama.
His aircraft landed at Haneda International Airport, Tokyo, at about 12:55 a.m. local time on Tuesday, where he was received by Ambassador Hideo Matsubara, Japan’s Special Envoy for TICAD, alongside Nigeria’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, Ambassador Yusuf Tugga.
The three-day conference, running from Wednesday to Friday, follows the last edition held in Tunisia in 2022. This year’s theme, “Co-create Innovative Solutions with Africa,” focuses on driving Africa’s economic transformation through private investment, innovation, and stronger institutions.
During the summit, President Tinubu will attend plenary sessions, hold bilateral meetings with world leaders, and engage Japanese business leaders, including investors with interests in Nigeria.
Launched in 1993 by the Japanese government, TICAD is co-hosted by the United Nations, UN Development Programme, African Union Commission (AUC), and the World Bank. The event, held every three years, alternates between Japan and an African country.
After TICAD9, President Tinubu will proceed to Brazil for a state visit from August 24 to 25 at the invitation of President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva.
