A factional Chairman of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), Nafiu Bala Gombe, on Thursday staged a protest in Abuja, demanding that prominent political figures, including former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, former Labour Party presidential candidate Peter Obi, former Senate President David Mark, and former Kano State Governor Rabiu Kwankwaso, should leave the party alone.
Nafiu Bala Gombe, who leads a faction within the ADC, was seen leading supporters in Abuja, insisting that the mentioned political heavyweights were interfering in the internal affairs and structure of the party.
He was reportedly joined at the protest by ADC House of Representatives member, Leke Abejide, who also aligned with the call for what they described as the protection of the party’s internal independence.
The demonstration highlights growing internal tensions within the ADC, as competing factions continue to disagree over leadership direction and possible alignments ahead of future political realignments in Nigeria’s opposition space.
