Nasarawa 2027: LP Candidate, Jonathan Gaza Promises Infrastructure Renewal, Peace if Elected Governor

The Labour Party’s governorship candidate for the 2027 election in Nasarawa State, Hon. Jonathan Gaza Gbefwi, has pledged to prioritize infrastructure development, peace, and inclusive governance if elected governor.

Gaza, who currently represents the Karu/Keffi/Kokona Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives, said his administration would focus on addressing insecurity, strengthening unity among the state’s diverse ethnic and religious groups, and improving critical infrastructure. He made the remarks during an interview in Nasarawa State.

According to him, recurring communal conflicts have slowed the state’s development, making reconciliation and peaceful coexistence essential for sustainable progress. He said he would leverage his legislative experience to foster cooperation among communities and promote policies that encourage stability and economic growth.

The Labour Party candidate also expressed confidence that the party would participate fully in the 2027 general elections, dismissing the party’s internal challenges as temporary and insisting they would not affect its electoral chances.

Gaza pledged to implement recommendations from previous peace initiatives and establish a committee of community leaders to identify the root causes of leadership and security challenges across the state. He said traditional and local leaders would be given greater responsibility in resolving disputes at the grassroots level.

He identified insecurity as one of Nasarawa’s biggest challenges, stressing that his administration would make the protection of lives and property a top priority while pursuing long-term solutions to the state’s security concerns.

On the issue of power rotation, Gaza described the zoning arrangement as an important political agreement that should be respected. He maintained that every senatorial zone should be allowed to complete its agreed tenure, arguing that adherence to the arrangement would promote fairness and political stability.

He added that a focused administration does not require excessive time to deliver meaningful results, expressing confidence that two terms would provide enough opportunity to lay a solid foundation for the state’s future development.

Gaza further criticized the current administration, claiming it had failed to deliver significant progress over the past three years. He said he chose the Labour Party after leaving the PDP and APC because he believes it offers the best platform to bring meaningful change to Nasarawa State.
