Edo NSCDC Commandant, Agun Gbenga, Slumps and Dies During Award Ceremony in Benin
BENIN CITY — Tragedy struck on Thursday when the Edo State Commandant of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), Agun Gbenga, suddenly slumped and died shortly after delivering a speech at a public event.
The incident happened at the Bishop Kelly Pastoral Centre, off Airport Road, Benin City, during a programme organized by the International Association of World Peace Advocates (IAWPA), where Gbenga was among the awardees.
According to eyewitnesses, the commandant collapsed moments after presenting his goodwill message. Efforts to resuscitate him at the venue failed before he was rushed to the Military Base Hospital, Benin, where doctors confirmed him dead on arrival.

Although the Command’s spokesman, Efosa Ogbebor, could not be reached for an official statement, a senior officer of the Corps confirmed the sad development, noting that the Commandant had already passed away before medical assistance was available.
