JAMB Uncovers Fingerprint Fraud in 19 CBT Centres

The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) has uncovered cases of fingerprint fraud across 19 Computer-Based Test (CBT) centres nationwide, with facilities in Imo and Anambra states topping the list.

The revelation came during JAMB’s 2025 policy meeting held on Tuesday in Abuja. According to data presented by JAMB Registrar, Prof. Ishaq Oloyede, Anambra recorded six offending centres, followed by Imo with four. Other affected states include Abia, Edo, Ebonyi, Delta, Kaduna, Rivers, Enugu, and Kano, each with one or two centres involved.

Oloyede also disclosed that the fraud extended beyond fingerprint manipulation to include disturbing tactics like the use of albinos for impersonation through image distortion, as well as remote uploads of candidates’ data.

In a related development, two individuals have been arraigned before the Federal High Court in Katsina over alleged impersonation and examination malpractice. Prosecuting officer, Abdussalam Danmaidaki, told the court that on April 30, at Zee Alpha International School in Funtua, Bolanwu Emmanuel arranged for Ibrahim Abdulaziz to sit the 2025 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME) on his behalf, using registration number: 2025515278JA.

Danmaidaki noted that the offences violated Sections 4(2)(a) and (b), 4(3)(c), as well as Sections 3(1)(a) and (b), and 3(2)(c) of the Examination Malpractice Act, Cap E15, Laws of the Federation of Nigeria, 2004.
