How Suspected Ritualist Mutilated My 16-Year-Old Son – Ogun Driver Recounts Tragedy

A commercial driver in Ogun State, Olumide Lawal, has recounted the gruesome killing and dismemberment of his 16-year-old son, Wahab Lawal, allegedly by a suspected ritualist, Salawu Omikansola, in the Igbile Ijebu area of the state.

In an exclusive interview with PUNCH Metro on Wednesday, Lawal narrated the heartbreaking events that led to the discovery of his son’s mutilated corpse.

The Ogun State Police Command had earlier confirmed the incident in a statement issued by its spokesperson, Omolola Odutola. According to the statement, Lawal had reported his son missing on July 21.

Two days later, on July 23, Wahab’s decomposed body was discovered along the expressway, with several vital parts — including his head, wrists, heart, and genitals — removed.

Odutola also revealed that operatives, acting on intelligence, arrested two suspects in connection with the killing: Salawu Omikansola and Serefusi Agemo.

Recounting the ordeal, Lawal said he became alarmed after receiving a call from his mother asking whether Wahab was with him, as the boy had not returned home.

“I drove from Ijebu-Ode to Ijebu Igbile to meet her, and we searched the entire community but couldn’t find him,” he said. “I immediately reported the case to the police and joined the search.”

Lawal said the breakthrough came on Wednesday after some women in the community spotted clothes and sandals matching his son’s along a road and informed him.

“I left home at 4 a.m. to continue searching. Around 2 p.m., I returned to Igbile and was told by some women that they saw clothes and sandals resembling my son’s on their way back from the farm. They suspected he had been killed,” he recalled.

Shocked and desperate, Lawal rushed to the location on a motorcycle.

“When I got there, I saw his corpse. He had been killed and mutilated — his head, wrists, heart, and private parts were gone. I reported the discovery to the police, who ordered that the body be buried.”

After the burial, Lawal said he began gathering information in the community and eventually heard that vigilantes had confronted a man found with bloodstains around 1 a.m. on the day of Wahab’s disappearance.

The man reportedly claimed he had slaughtered a dog for someone celebrating the Ogun Ajobo festival, which led the vigilantes to release him.

“Someone identified the suspect to me. I informed the police, who arrested him,” Lawal said. “After interrogation, the suspect allegedly confessed he had been instructed by a traditionalist, Serefusi, to carry out the killing.”

According to Lawal, the suspect claimed he initially hesitated but was reassured by Serefusi, described as the head of Agemo worshippers in the community.

Lawal is now calling on the Ogun State Government and all relevant authorities to ensure justice is served.

“My appeal is that the death of my son must not be in vain. I want justice because I’m hearing that Serefusi is powerful and has people who may try to shield him from punishment,” he said.
