Murder Suspect in Ondo Varsity Case Dies in Police Custody

The Ondo State Police Command has confirmed the death of Femi Oladele, popularly known as Tallex, a suspect arrested in connection with the murder of two students of Adekunle Ajasin University, Akungba Akoko.

Oladele, who allegedly played a role in the abduction and killing of the students — Andrel Okah of the History and International Studies Department and John Abba of the Economics Department — reportedly died in police custody following a brief illness.

The two 200-level students had been declared missing for three weeks before their disappearance was reported to the police by concerned colleagues. An investigation was launched, leading to the arrest of Oladele — identified as a landlord to one of the victims — and two other suspects.

According to the police, during interrogation, one of the suspects confessed that the students were murdered and their bodies dumped at separate locations in Ekiti State. So far, the decomposing body of Okah has been recovered and deposited at a morgue, while efforts to locate Abba’s body continue.

A police source said Oladele took ill while in custody and was rushed to a hospital, where he died despite receiving medical attention.

Confirming the development, the state Police Public Relations Officer, Mrs. Olayinka Ayanlade, said, “Yes, he is dead. He had been receiving medical care since his arrest and had been in and out of the hospital. He passed away early Friday.”

Ayanlade urged the public to disregard any misinformation, assuring that the police remain committed to ensuring justice is served. “Everyone involved will face the full weight of the law,” she added.
