Reekado Banks admits leaving Mavin Records was hasty

Nigerian Afrobeats singer Ayoleyi Solomon, popularly known as Reekado Banks, has once again reflected on his exit from Don Jazzy’s Mavin Records, admitting that the decision was “premature.”
Speaking on Echo Room Podcast in a snippet shared via Instagram on Tuesday, the Easy (Jeje) crooner said there was no conflict behind his departure but rather a youthful determination to strike out on his own.
“It wasn’t a conflict situation. I was pretty young and fixated on what I wanted. My contract had expired two years before, but I stayed on, making it five years in total. When it was finally time, I just felt like I wanted to do this now,” he explained.
However, Reekado admitted that he soon realized he had rushed the decision.
“I thought I could handle it. I embarked on the journey, but soon after, I saw how premature it was,” he confessed.
Asked about the most memorable advice he got from Don Jazzy, the singer recalled a humorous moment:
“It wasn’t even advice. He just said, ‘I’m not going to beat you. Nobody go beat me,’” he said with laughter.
This is not the first time Reekado has addressed his exit. In July 2025, he told The Esther Show that leaving Mavin forced him to grow up quickly, teaching him accountability and independence. He noted that staying longer under Don Jazzy’s guidance might have made him complacent and less responsible for his failures.
Reekado Banks officially announced his departure from Mavin Records in 2018, describing it as amicable and filled with gratitude.

At the time, he praised Don Jazzy for treating him like a son and giving him a platform that helped shape his career.
