Atiku Slams ‘Military Honours’ Accorded to President Tinubu’s Son, Seyi, by Armed Cadet Network, Calls for Investigation

Former Vice President and prominent opposition leader, Atiku Abubakar, has raised concerns over the alleged military honors extended to Seyi Tinubu, the son of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, by a network of armed cadets. The incident, which has stirred public debate, has prompted Atiku to demand a thorough investigation into the matter, describing it as an affront to Nigeria’s democratic and military principles.

In a statement issued on Friday, Atiku questioned the rationale behind conferring such honors on a private citizen with no official ties to the military or government office. He argued that the gesture undermines the integrity of the Nigerian Armed Forces, whose traditions and protocols are reserved for individuals who have earned such recognition through service or sacrifice.

“The military is a sacred institution that represents the collective security and unity of our nation. It is disturbing to see its symbols and honors being extended to individuals who hold no official capacity within its ranks. This act not only disrespects the institution but also sets a dangerous precedent,” Atiku stated.

Reports suggest that Seyi Tinubu was recently celebrated in an event organized by the armed cadet network, sparking outrage among citizens who perceive it as an example of favoritism and the misuse of state institutions. Critics have accused the Tinubu administration of blurring the lines between personal and official privileges.

Atiku has called on relevant authorities, including the Ministry of Defence and the Nigerian Armed Forces, to investigate the incident and ensure accountability. He emphasized the need for transparency, urging the government to reassure Nigerians that the country’s institutions remain impartial and uphold democratic values.

The controversy adds to the growing list of criticisms leveled against the Tinubu administration, with opposition voices questioning its commitment to ethical governance. As public scrutiny intensifies, many Nigerians await the government’s response to the allegations.
