The National Leader of the Nigerian Democratic Congress (NDC), Seriake Dickson, on Friday welcomed a significant wave of defectors from the African Democratic Congress (ADC), Labour Party (LP), and Social Democratic Party (SDP), marking a notable shift in Abuja’s political landscape.

The defectors were officially unveiled during a press briefing held at Dickson’s residence in Abuja. The group was led by Amanda Pam, a suspended ADC figure and former National Legal Adviser of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in 2003. Pam also previously served as Mandate Secretary for Health in the Federal Capital Territory during the administration of former President Muhammadu Buhari.

She arrived alongside several key political figures, including ward and local government chairmen, prominent ADC members, and supporters affiliated with the Kwankwasiyya Movement within the Abuja Municipal Area Council (AMAC), underscoring the scale and coordination of the defection.

Notable individuals who joined the move include Omale Sule, suspended ADC Chairman in AMAC; Princess Gladys Ngozi, former FCT ADC Women Leader; Godwin Onoya, ex-ADC Chairman of Kuje Area Council; Yusuf Adam, former Deputy ADC Chairman; and Aliyu Umar, former FCT Youth Leader. Others are Nurudeen Bissallah, former SDP Chairman in the FCT, and Faruk Datsama, immediate past Deputy Chairman of the FCT Labour Party.

Speaking to journalists, Dickson described the development as a major gain for the NDC, emphasizing the party’s growing strength and national reach. He reiterated that political power should be used for service and expressed confidence in the party’s expanding presence in states such as Sokoto, Kebbi, and Lagos. He also formally issued membership cards to the new entrants.

Amanda Pam, a well-known grassroots mobilizer in Abuja, explained that the decision to defect was driven by the need to align with a party that offers clear direction and credible leadership. She revealed that over 1,100 executives and their supporters had joined the NDC, asserting that the party now holds strong electoral prospects in the FCT.

Nurudeen Bissallah, who has been appointed Deputy State Chairman of the NDC, disclosed that the SDP structure in the FCT has effectively merged into the party. Meanwhile, Faruk Datsama attributed his departure from the Labour Party to ongoing internal conflicts, describing the NDC as a more stable and promising alternative.

The wave of defections comes amid ongoing turmoil within the ADC, particularly following the derecognition of the faction led by David Mark. In Abuja, the party has also been grappling with internal disputes, including the controversial suspension of Senator Ireti Kingibe, which was later nullified by the party’s National Working Committee over procedural irregularities.
