Operatives of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) have apprehended a pastor and his wife in Lagos after allegedly uncovering 11 kilograms of skunk concealed in secret compartments of their vehicle.
The suspects, Pastor Afolabi Hodonu, 45, who is said to be in charge of the Celestial Church of Christ, Agonvi Sea Beach in the Sakpo area of Seme border, Badagry, alongside his wife, Mrs. Success Hodonu, 35, were arrested on Thursday, April 2, at the Gbaji checkpoint.
According to a statement issued on Sunday by the agency’s spokesperson, Femi Babafemi, a thorough search of the couple’s Honda Pilot SUV revealed the illicit drugs carefully hidden within modified sections of the car.
Babafemi explained that the arrest was linked to an earlier operation at the same checkpoint on Monday, March 30, where NDLEA operatives intercepted a suspected fake security officer, Sunday Samuel, 35, transporting 24.5 kilograms of skunk from the Seme border into Lagos.
He noted that ongoing investigations from that earlier seizure led to the identification and eventual arrest of the pastor and his wife.
The spokesperson added that the incident forms part of a wider series of anti-drug operations carried out by the agency across the country over the past week.
