Blind Abuja couple seeks help to start business

A visually impaired couple, John and Janet Paul, who were recently evicted from their rented apartment in Abuja, have called on well-meaning Nigerians to support their efforts to become financially independent by starting a business.
The couple made headlines after alleging that their landlady asked them to vacate her house due to their visual impairment, despite having lived in the apartment peacefully for years.
John recounted the ordeal, stating that their challenges began when their landlady moved into the building last year.
“We got the house through an agent and lived there peacefully until she moved in. Since then, she made it clear that she didn’t want to live with blind people. She served us a quit notice last month, claiming she wanted to renovate the house. But we are not owing her,” he said
Their story drew widespread outrage on social media, with many Nigerians condemning the discrimination and offering to help.
Expressing their gratitude to Nigerians for their support, Janet, in an interview with Saturday PUNCH, said they had moved into a new house.
“We are grateful for the support we have received from Nigerians so far. We pray God will wipe away the tears of those who contributed to us getting a new apartment,” she said.

Janet, however, said they had procured a small container with the remaining funds to start trading.
She said, “We have secured a place and used the remaining funds to buy a small container we hope to use for trading.
“However, we would appreciate further help to stock up and begin our journey to financial stability.”
