Lagos OPC Member Arrested for Allegedly Killing Teenager

The Lagos State Police Command has apprehended a suspected member of the Oodua People’s Congress (OPC) in connection with the fatal shooting of a 17-year-old boy in the Itapo area of Epe Local Government Area.

The command’s spokesperson, Benjamin Hundeyin, confirmed the arrest during a conversation with reporters on Thursday.

The tragic incident occurred around 3 a.m. on Monday, when the suspect—whose identity remains undisclosed—allegedly opened fire on the teenager, killing him instantly before fleeing the scene.

Reports indicate that the shooting sparked widespread unrest in the community. According to a Facebook post by Ibrandtv media, outraged youths and residents staged a protest, carrying the victim’s body through major streets in Epe to demand justice.

The demonstration heightened tensions in the area until police and other security personnel intervened, reportedly using teargas and firing warning shots to disperse the crowd.

“A 17-year-old boy was tragically shot dead by an OPC member at 3 a.m. in Epe.

The suspect fled the scene immediately after the incident,” the post read. “In response, angry youths and community members took to the streets, carrying the victim’s corpse in a protest from Itapo to highlight their outrage over the loss.

The police and security agencies intervened, using teargas and gunshots to disperse the crowd and retrieve the body, which was taken to the hospital.”

Following the unrest, police launched a manhunt for the suspect. Hundeyin later confirmed the arrest, stating simply, “Suspect arrested and transferred to the SCID (State Criminal Investigation Department).”

This incident comes shortly after a separate tragedy in Ibadan, Oyo State, where a student was killed by a stray bullet allegedly fired by a police officer chasing the student’s father.
