Scores Killed, Injured in Renewed Herdsmen Attack in Benue

Tragedy struck the Yelewata community in Benue State late Friday night as suspected armed herdsmen launched a deadly attack around 10:00 p.m., leaving numerous people dead and many others injured.
According to reports gathered by FCNN on Saturday morning, at least 16 individuals sustained various degrees of injuries during the brutal assault. However, the exact number of fatalities remains unclear, as authorities continue efforts to verify and compile data from the scene.
In response to a distress call, personnel from the Nigerian Army and the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) were dispatched to the area. Tragically, they were ambushed in Daudu en route to the attack site, resulting in the deaths of two soldiers and one Civil Defence officer.
“These brave men paid the ultimate price in service to our people. Their sacrifice will never be forgotten,” a community source told reporters paying tribute to the fallen security operatives.
Survivors of the attack are currently receiving medical attention at the Benue State University Teaching Hospital (BSUTH) in Makurdi. Medical personnel have issued an urgent appeal for blood donations to help save the lives of the critically injured.
Authorities and humanitarian organizations have called on the public to provide immediate support, particularly through blood donations and other medical assistance.

“My heartfelt condolences go to the families of the victims, especially our fallen heroes in uniform,” a concerned resident said. The resident also declined to share graphic images from the incident out of respect for the victims and community decency.
