JUST IN: 16 Inmates Escape After Attacking Keffi Custodial Centre Personnel

Sixteen inmates have escaped from the Medium Security Custodial Centre in Keffi, Nasarawa State, after launching a violent attack on Nigerian Correctional Service (NCoS) personnel in the facility.

The Nation gathered that five officers sustained varying degrees of injuries during the incident, which occurred in the early hours of Tuesday.

In a statement, the Service’s Public Relations Officer, Umar Abubakar, confirmed the escape, explaining that “some inmates breached the facility’s security and attacked personnel on duty in a bid to compromise the situation.”

He added that two of the injured officers are in serious condition and are receiving urgent medical care at a government hospital.

According to Abubakar, seven of the fleeing inmates have already been recaptured and returned to custody.

The Controller General of Corrections, Sylvester Ndidi Nwakuche, has visited the facility, ordering a full investigation into the incident and warning that no staff found culpable will be spared.

He also directed an immediate manhunt for the remaining escapees in collaboration with other security agencies.

The public has been urged to remain calm, stay vigilant, and report any suspicious movement or sightings of the escapees to the nearest security formation.
