Tinubu Meets Governor Otti in Aso Rock Amid Moves on Nnamdi Kanu’s Detention

President Bola Tinubu on Tuesday received Abia State Governor Alex Otti at the Presidential Villa, Abuja, in what is believed to be part of ongoing consultations over the detention and conviction of Indigenous People of Biafra leader, Nnamdi Kanu.

Otti, who arrived the President’s office dressed in a grey knee-length traditional attire, met Tinubu days after visiting Kanu at the Sokoto Correctional Centre. During that visit, he was accompanied by Kanu’s younger brother Emmanuel Kanu, the Abia State Attorney-General Ikechukwu Uwanna, SAN and his media aide Ferdinand Ekeoma. Officials of the Sokoto State Government facilitated access to the prison.

Speaking after the Sokoto prison visit, the governor reaffirmed that resolving issues surrounding Kanu’s incarceration remains a priority for his administration. Through his media aide, he said Abia State has adopted a coordinated legal and political strategy toward securing Kanu’s release.

“While Mazi Nnamdi Kanu is free to appeal his conviction, I’m happy to inform you that I have activated and will continue to work on the already agreed strategy until his freedom is secured,” Otti said.

Although details of Tuesday’s meeting with Tinubu were not made public, it is widely believed to form part of the governor’s ongoing push for a resolution to the matter.
