Smile@Christmas: Youth Care Global and Partners Bring Festive Cheer to Edo Communities
Two Edo State communities experienced a heartwarming yuletide celebration as Ireland-based NGO Youth Care Global, supported by several organizations, distributed special Christmas packages through its Smile@Christmas initiative.
The 2024 edition of the outreach touched the lives of residents in Uhie (Ikpoba Okha LGA) and Ureghin (Oredo LGA), spreading joy to hundreds of families. Supported by organizations such as Braniz & Lloyds Aviation, Sol Haven Properties, Outwork Media, Gear Up, Infinite Focus Engineers and Project Managers, Uwa Oasis Estate, and Optima Financials, the initiative delivered cooked meals and foodstuffs to vulnerable and underserved families.
The founder of Youth Care Global, Brienze Lawrence, explained that the Smile@Christmas project is deeply personal and inspired by her own childhood experiences in Nigeria.
According to her, “I have been on this journey for the past 13 years. It is a deeply personal project because I was motivated to start Smile@Christmas as a result of my personal experience here in Nigeria while growing up. It was such that while others were able to afford to do a decent meal, others couldn’t and this pained me so much.
“However, now that I have the resources to make sure other people, especially children and women, are able to have memorable experiences during Christmas, I give it my best every year and I also bring my friends and other supportive brands to join in on this project.”
Lawrence noted that this year’s initiative reached hundreds of families, with many receiving cooked food or essential food items to prepare a wholesome Christmas meal.

The Legal Consultant to Youth Care Global, Christiana Onome Edenemenya, expressed gratitude for the support that made the project a success.
According to her, “It has been a wonderful experience these past few days and we are grateful to those who made this possible. As an annual event, this year’s outreach was quite fulfilling and we look forward to an even bigger project next year.”
The Smile@Christmas initiative continues to exemplify the spirit of giving, fostering joy, and creating lasting memories for underserved communities during the festive season.
