Foreigner Rescued After Surviving Abuja Building Collapse

A 27-year-old national of Niger Republic, Aliyu Salisu, narrowly escaped death after being trapped for nearly 10 hours under the rubble of a collapsed three-storey building in the Lifecamp area of Abuja on Saturday.

While several other occupants managed to flee before the structure gave way, Salisu was caught beneath the debris until emergency responders pulled him out around 4:00 a.m. on Sunday.

The spokesperson for the FCT Police Command, SP Josephine Adeh, confirmed the incident in a statement on Sunday. She said Salisu was immediately taken to Cedar Crest Hospital in Gudu, where he is currently receiving treatment and is responding well.

According to Adeh, the police received a distress call about the collapse at approximately 6:15 p.m. on August 2, 2025. The Divisional Police Officer of Lifecamp swiftly mobilised a rescue team, cordoned off the site, and launched a joint operation with the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA), FCT Development Control officials, and Zeberced Construction Company.

“At about 4:00 a.m. on August 3, 2025, rescue teams successfully pulled out Aliyu Salisu, the only victim trapped in the rubble after close to 10 hours of intense rescue efforts,” Adeh stated.

She added that the FCT Commissioner of Police, Ajao Adewale, who visited the scene, praised the professionalism and timely response of all the agencies involved.
