Just in: FCT Teachers Embark on Indefinite Strike Over Unpaid Salaries and Welfare Disputes
Kindly share this story

Public school teachers in Abuja have declared an indefinite strike starting Monday, April 20, 2026, citing unresolved welfare concerns and outstanding entitlements.
The Nigeria Union of Teachers (FCT chapter) said the decision was reached after an emergency meeting, where members agreed to suspend their duties until authorities respond to their long-standing grievances.
The industrial action is expected to affect both primary and secondary schools across the six area councils, interrupting learning for a large number of students.
Key issues driving the strike include unpaid wages, delays in promotions, and the failure to implement previously agreed terms with the FCT Administration. The union emphasized that repeated efforts to engage the government have not produced meaningful results, leaving them with no alternative but to down tools.
Teachers have been instructed to remain off duty until further notice, while parents and guardians have been advised to keep their children at home as the situation develops.
The action is likely to disrupt the school calendar, especially as it coincides with the planned resumption period.
