Kogi Varsity Expels Two Students Over Alleged Same-Sex Conduct, Rusticates Four for Fighting

The Management of Confluence University of Science and Technology (CUSTECH), Osara, has approved the expulsion of two students over alleged involvement in same-sex conduct, while four other students have been rusticated for one academic session for engaging in fighting on campus.
The disciplinary actions were approved during the 31st Regular Meeting of the University Senate, held at the Faculty of Law Lecture Theatre, after the Senate considered recommendations submitted by the Students’ Disciplinary Committee.
According to disciplinary letters signed by the Deputy Registrar (Academics), Mr. Eli Usman Gbadafu, and made available to the University’s Information, Public Relations and Protocol Unit, the sanctions were imposed in line with the provisions of the CUSTECH Students’ Handbook (Second Edition), as amended in 2025.
The students expelled from the institution are Onumoko Hamza of the Department of Biology Education (Matric No. 23L1BE0945) and Abdulazeez Lukman Eneji of the Department of Mining Engineering (Matric No. 23L1MN0088). The University stated that both were found guilty of engaging in same-sex conduct, an offence it said contravenes its regulations.
Also sanctioned are Favor Akowe of the Department of Microbiology (Matric No. 24L1MC2212), Simbiat Babamuharuna of the Department of Biology (Matric No. 25L1BL4453), Zainab Salami Omayoza of the Department of Biochemistry (Matric No. 24L1BC1277), and Sukura Bukola of the Department of Biochemistry (Matric No. 25L1BC4352), who were each rusticated for one academic session over their involvement in fighting.
The University Management reaffirmed its commitment to maintaining discipline, order, and a conducive environment for teaching, learning, and research.
It warned that it would continue to enforce its rules and regulations without hesitation, stressing that any student found guilty of misconduct would face appropriate disciplinary measures.
The management also urged all students to familiarise themselves with the provisions of the Students’ Handbook and conduct themselves in accordance with the University’s established rules and regulations.
