Breaking: DSS Releases Soyinka, Hold back Passport

The Department of State Services (DSS) has released Adejuwon Soyinka, an investigative journalist and the Regional Editor of The Conversation Africa after arresting him upon his arrival at the Murtala Muhammed International Airport in Lagos.
Fusion Chronicles earlier reported that Soyinka was arrested by DSS operatives early Sunday morning, shortly after landing from a Virgin Atlantic flight from the United Kingdom.
DSS spokesperson, Peter Afunanya, when contacted said he was not aware of the arrest of the journalist but later confirmed the arrest, saying he was detained at the request of “another agency”.
Soyinka was released and passport held back following the intervention of the International Press Institute (IPI) Nigeria, a global network of editors, media executives, and communication experts.
Security operatives have increased attacks on journalists since the beginning of the year.
