Nigerian Troops Neutralize 8 Terrorists in Fierce Katsina Gun Battle

Troops of the Nigerian Army have recorded a major success in the ongoing fight against terrorism in Katsina State, eliminating eight terrorists during a clash along the Kurfi–Batsari Road on Wednesday.

The operation was carried out by soldiers from the 17 Brigade under Operation Fasan Yamma, stationed at the Forward Operating Base (FOB) Kurfi.

In a statement released on Thursday in Abuja, the Director of Defence Media Operations, Maj.-Gen. Markus Kangye, confirmed the development.

Kangye said the troops acted swiftly to counter the terrorists and foil their mission after a prolonged exchange of gunfire.

According to him, the operation led to the recovery of significant weapons and ammunition from the terrorists, including five AK-47 rifles, six AK-47 magazines and 13 rounds of 7.62mm special ammunition.

“The situation remains calm while troops’ morale and fighting efficiency remain high.

“The Defence Headquarters commends the bravery and professionalism of the troops involved in the operation.

“We reassure Nigerians of our continued efforts to ensure the safety and security of our citizens,” he said.

However, one soldier sustained injuries during the encounter and has been evacuated to the 17 Brigade Medical Centre for medical attention.

The successful operation underscores the military’s ongoing resolve to secure Nigeria’s northwest region and suppress terrorist activity.
