Kogi Governor, Orders Demolition Of ISWAP Hideouts In Okene

Kindly share this story

Kogi State Governor, Alhaji Ahmed Usman Ododo, has directed security agencies to pull down suspected terrorist hideouts in Okene, as part of efforts to curb insecurity in the state.

Following this directive, authorities have begun operations with the demolition of a building believed to be an Islamic State West Africa Province (ISWAP) hideout in Sambel, Idoji, within Okene Local Government Area.

The move comes after a series of violent incidents in the state, including the recent burning of the home of Ohireba Obanyi in Uhuodo, Ebiraland, which has been linked to terrorist activities.

It will be recalled that some months ago, Sheikh Gumi, known as a negotiator with terrorist groups, claimed that a large number of terrorists operating in Kogi State and the South-West are of Ebira origin and have been influenced by extremist teachings.

In another development, the alleged mastermind behind the attack on Deeper Life Bible Church in Okene, said to be a leader of the Ansaru terrorist group, was recently rearrested and brought before the court.

These events point to growing concerns about the spread of extremist beliefs in the area. However, the Kogi State Government has reassured residents of its commitment to decisively eliminate all forms of terrorism to restore peace and promote development across the state.
